The Historic St. Louis Street Association was organized and incorporated in 1999. It is a non profit charitable corporation which is governed by a 7 member Board of Directors. The Board members are elected for staggered two year terms at an annual meeting of the membership. The annual meeting is held on the second Tuesday of May of each year. Membership in the Association is entirely voluntary. There are two classes of membership—Member and Associate Member. Any person interested in being a member may be an Associate Member. However, only those persons who live or own property on St. Louis Street may be Members. Only Members may vote at the annual meeting.
The officers of the Association are elected by the Board of Directors. The officers consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The term of office is for two years.
The purpose of the Association is to protect, preserve and promote the quality of life of the St. Louis Street neighborhood. This includes beautification of the street, addressing safety and traffic issues, recording the history of the people and homes of the Street and providing for social interaction between its residents and neighbors. In addition, the Association organizes charitable and other worthwhile projects for its residents. In general, the purpose of the Association is to assure that this beautiful neighborhood, with it unique homes and varied architecture, remains a wonderful place to live as well as retains its special place in the City of Edwardsville.
Along with its Board of Directors, which meets monthly, a number of committees are actively engaged in furthering the objectives of the Association. These committees includes one for beautification, historic preservation, social activities, membership, the website, welcoming new neighbors, traffic, “adopt a highway” and the newsletter.
